After the trail for Fae's attacker went cold, you rested for several days and then did some shopping - mostly selling of items you had found. A trip to the Bull & Bear, and then to Myraeth's Oddities turned the items into coin.
You were considering looking into the Delver's Guild when you ran into Iltumar Shon, who told you that a woman had come looking for delvers that specifically had not joined the guild. He presented you with her card.
You proceeded to the address in the Fairbriar neighborhood of Midtown, just a few blocks away. You knocked on the door, and were quickly whisked inside by a halfling woman. She introduced herself as Caliope Irongull and her husband (a dwarf) as Lurtrum.
Caliope had recently purchased a formerly-abandoned property that she believed contained an entrance to Ghul's Labyrinth, the maze-like dungeons beneath the city. She wished to verify this claim, but, something had taken up residence there. Her proposition was that you clear the building and search for the hidden entrance, for which she would pay you 100 gold thrones.
The negotiations for price were tense: the party seemed split over whether to try and get a larger reward, or do the job as presented. The 100 gold was accepted for now, though this "discussion" was not over.
You proceed to the address in Oldtown, taking in the new sights as you went. You found the property, and, after much scoping out of the outside, Phen was able to breach the makeshift mechanism that held the door shut. He was greeted by a pail of offal that fell from above, and, an attacking "ghost".
Entering the darkened room, the ghost was revealed to be nothing more than a sheet over a stirge, and the real occupants were found to be ratmen. You cleared out the main floor and then repeated the process upstairs, where you found a goblin named Splug held captive, who claimed to have been caught in the sewers. You let him go free.
Proceeding down to the cellar, you battled the last of the ratmen. Although they used empty crates as cover for their short bow attacks, in the end they were no match for you. You searched for a secret door, and uncovered two giant centipedes, one of which bit Yasin to unconsciousness. You healed Yasin and rested, then found the secret door and headed in.
Beyond the door you found stairs leading down, and the passages much older than the home above. It appeared you were heading in the right direction. You found another door, intentionally blocked as though the ratmen were trying to keep something out. You proceeded cautiously.
There you found the threat: two ghouls. The battle was hard, but Carric's _witch bolt_ turned the tide, despite his getting paralyzed in response. The ghouls defeated, you found the remains of a prior pair of adventurers that Caliope had hired. The chamber had a collapsed wall to the sewer system, which explained how the ratmen and goblin gained entry. You also found a door of magical Blue Steel, unable to be opened. This was your goal.
Having cleared the house, you returned to Midtown. As Caliope waited for news of what you found, Yasin attempted to get more money from this deal, but was shouted down by the rest of the party. Slightly taken aback, Caliope held up her end of the original bargain and paid the remaining reward.
With that, you headed back to the Ghostly Minstrel to look for your next opportunities...
